According to Autocar, the next generation Honda/Acura NSX has had its final design signed off and should make its debut at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show, with production beginning in late 2010.
Rumours like this aren't exactly new though: back in December Honda America President Tetsuo Iwamura said the new NSX would be on sale in 2010. When it does eventually turn up in showrooms, expect it to be badged as an Acura and also don't expect it to bear any inward or outward resemblance to its predecessor. The new NSX will use a more traditional Panhard FR layout, rather than the mid-mounted transverse arrangement of the NA1 NSX. The engine will also be worlds apart from the old C-series V6 too, with four more cylinders and 1.5 of extra displacement giving the new NSX an estimated 410kW.
The body apparently features many styling influences from the ChevroletCorvette, which in our opinion is a definite plus: The C6 Corvette is without doubt one of the sexiest shapes on the road today.
Autocar also reports that the new NSX will spearhead the launch of several other Acura models, all of which will utilise a RWD chassis. A new luxury sedan is said to be the next cab off the rank after the NSX, and should launch in 2015. A small coupe/roadster is also rumoured to be in the pipeline, potentially replacing the aging AP2 S2000. The move to RWD is a good sign for Acura, which has high hopes of breaking into the global luxury market, a market that places a high premium on performance potential, as well as cushy appointments.
