The Spec C will apparently feature a range of under-the-skin changes, such as a lower and stiffer suspension package and a drop in overall weight of 90kg. From here it gets a lot more serious though, with Subaru allegedly fitting the Spec C with a fully-flat underbody and aluminium rear diffuser to increase high-speed downforce, as well as a revised turbo and exhaust system, which provides a moderate bump in power from 224kW to 239kW. Ratios for the Spec C's 6-speed manual gearbox (no twin-clutch unit just yet) have also been changed, with the first four gears featuring closer ratios while fifth and sixth have been made taller to increase top speed.
The Spec C's V-max is rumoured to hang around the 266kph mark, however 6-piston Brembos pinched from the Legacy S402
should help bring the factory-tuned hatchback back to saner speeds with haste. Preliminary reports by spy photographers stationed around the Nurburgring Nordschliefe circuit suggest that the Spec C's new turn of speed is enough to shave a full 15 seconds off the standard STI's PB. To illustrate just how fast previous Spec C's have been, we've included two videos of past Spec C's being punted around the 22km circuit at full tilt. They ain't GT-R fast, that's for sure, but I'm sure you'll agree that a 7:59 lap is still pretty damn quick. Enjoy.
