Six Degrees of Automotive Separation: Volvo and DAF

Daniel Strohl, 27.03.2009 in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.hemmings.com

no peeking at the filename for a hint

While researching a story recently, Koch came across the Internet’s worst “six degrees” type association exercise at Seven Degrees of Austin Seven. We figured we could do much better here on the blog, and we figured you’re all bored out of your gourds on Friday afternoons, so we’re announcing the Hemmings Six Degrees of Automotive Separation Challenge.

The premise is simple, especially if you’ve ever played Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, except in the Six Degrees of Automotive Separation Challenge, neither end of the thread is anchored with any one particular automotive manufacturer. The connections must be substantial, as in Company A owned Company B, or Company A built cars using Company B’s parts. Final determination of an appropriate connection is left to the judges. Oh, and we’re looking for style and obscurity in connections, not necessarily the shortest path between two points.

So to kick off the Hemmings Six Degrees of Automotive Separation, this week we’re challenging you to draw a connection between Volvo and DAF using no more than six connections. Yes, yes, Volvo Cars bought DAF’s passenger car operations in 1975. We’re talking about Volvo Trucks. Oh, and connect the two using only American auto makers.

Get your answers in before 5 p.m. EST, when we will reveal the answer.
