This is the Mercedes-Judd SLK340 that was built for international hill climbing in FIA E1 category. Mercedes tuning house Carlsson Germany together with Team Meisel Motorsport took a Mercedes SLK R172 and turned it into a hill climb monster.

Since the team was working with Mercedes they were allowed full access to all CAD designs. This allowed them to engineer everything on the computer and keep the total weight of the car at 780 kg (1719.6 lb).

The aerodynamic improvements which include a closed underfloor, front splitter, front and rear diffusor allow the car to achieve 1461.2 lbs (6500 N) at 150 mph and a lift-to-drag ratio greater than 2:1.

Under the hood sits a 3.4 L Judd DB V8 from a LMP2. The engine weighs 115 kg (253 lb) and produces 610 horsepower and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque. A Cosworth ECU was used to control the engine and for data acquisition.

Power goes from the engine through a Sachs Race Engineering anti-stall clutch to a Hewland TMT six-speed transaxle with a powerflow limited slip differential. The transaxle allows for semi-automatic or manual sequential selection and is controlled by a Megaline paddle shift system.
