Happy 26th Birthday, Tsukuba Time Attack!

Japanese Performance Car News, Freitag, 04 April 2008 in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, Archiv (Blogs, Mitglieder-Artikel)

Forget the Nordschliefe. In the world of Japanese modified cars the quintessential time attack track is undoubtedly Tsukuba Circuit, which has played host to time attack events for 26 of its 28 years.

Car Top magazine recently published a retrospective on the circuit's history along with the laptimes of several notable vehicles, and our friends at Nihon Car have put some of these records up on their site. It makes for interesting reading: Not only is the R35 Skyline quicker around the circuit than a Lamborghini Gallardo, but a JZX100 Chaser is apparently faster than Lexus' much-vaunted IS-F!

As part of our homage to everyone's favorite JDM track we found a clip of many a time attack machine blitzing Tsukuba Circuit. Not only does it feature Garage HRS's Cyber Evo, the now retired Nagisa Auto GT-R and the ASM S2000, but it also shows the current OEM chassis record holder for the track: HKS's CT230R Lancer Evolution. Not only that, but you get to see its record-smashing lap in all its unedited glory! Check it out below:
