Japanese aftermarket parts powerhouse Blitz has apparently transplanted the RWD drivetrain from a Z33 Fairlady Z into a near-new R35 GT-R, which suggests only one thing: there are plans afoot to enter a back-wheel burnin' GT-R into the sideways circus that is the D1 Grand Prix.
While I personally frown upon such mechanical mutilation of a technological marvel like the R35, I get the feeling that watching that big coupe sliding its way across a Japanese circuit would be a truly mesmerizing sight. Well, it would be if Blitz can guarantee the combination of VR8DETT and 6-speed manual will be able to work in harmony under the extreme duress of competitive drifting. After all, if simply fitting aftermarket wheels to the GT-R's hubs throws an error code
, just imagine the electronic shitstorm that would ensue if a GT-R were to be started up with it's entire rear-mounted transaxle missing.
Unfortunately we haven't yet managed to find any pictures of Blitz's rear-drive R35 (we are, of course, assuming it actually exists), however until we do you can tide yourself over with this artists' rendering and the crudely-photoshopped image below. Enjoy, and let the speculation begin!
