E-Vade Hits The Stands At MIMS

Tony, Donnerstag, 06 März 2008 in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, jpcnews.blogspot.com

Tucked away in a far corner of the Melbourne Exhibition Centre was a pair of short, squat open topped cars. We've told you much about these cars before (like, here and here), but their designer/builder/owner David Walter has been keeping JPCN posted on how his creations are progressing in the lead up to their first public showing.

Cupholders are for pussies

While the blue car is the more user-friendly (and street-legal) of the pair, it's still anything but sedate. Its VG30-based Nissan V6 cranks out an impressive 350kW, which is plenty for a sub one-tonne car, while AP Racing 6-piston brakes help you avoid the Armco.

The rear is spartan and businesslike, just like the rest of the car

While it shares the same bodywork, the track version is a different beast altogether. I've been fortunate enough to see this thing running, and its top-tune engine literally breathes fire. We're talking foot-long flames, people. Like the road-legal car, the track car's engine is also based on the VG30 except this time every internal component is customised for the application, while the turbochargers are also unique to the E-Vade and are based on Garret GT25 cores. The E-Vade's engine management is courtesy of a Link GenIII unit.

The end result? Walter conservatively estimates around 500kW at the flywheel, although difficulty in getting the thing properly strapped down on the dyno means no official result is presently available. However, he does know that the car puts out at least 240kW at the wheels on 4psi of boost, which gives you a pretty good idea of what this thing will be capable of once the wick is turned up.

The track car's satin black finish is an appropriate colour for something so... evil,

We're keen to see what this thing can do on the track, and Walter has generously extended an invite to JPCN for his next shakedown. We'll have pics (and perhaps video) of this beast on hand once it happens.

The quality of workmanship really has to be seen up close to be believed
