Unlike prior Musclepaloozas, the 350 race cars at the palooza this past weekend were all either F.A.S.T. racers or bracket racers - nobody qualifying for their license and no N.E.T.O. cars. Also unlike prior Musclepaloozas, we had very few oildowns or stoppages for breaking, so the racing continued nearly uninterrupted all day. Throw in the cool weather, sun all day, and we saw some impressive times. Though no F.A.S.T. racer took home the $1,000 bounty for a 10.58 or better timeslip, Dave Dudek was in the 10s all day, dipping as low as 10.90.

A pair of altered-wheelbase Dodges simply showed up, ran a few bracket races, then left us with our jaws on the tarmac

Grabber!

Check the cover of the October 2007 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines and you’ll see this Parnelli Jones Mustang owned by Scott Watson. It’s actually his wife, Mary, in the car: You see, she got a speeding ticket on the way up to the track, so she told Scott she wanted to blow off some steam behind the wheel of the PJ Mustang before headed back home to Massachusetts

That Berger Camaro we showed earlier ? It actually did run all day, with no problems. IIRC, timeslips were in the 14-second range

McGean and McNessor playing around with a portable tree in the media suite during a break in the action

Late arrival on a stylish transporter

The no-bumper Spirit brigade showed up in force again

Not a muscle car per se, nor a particularly sharp photo, but that’s some good air there

It wouldn’t be a Musclepalooza coverage post without an AMC showing light under the front tires

More higher!

The Stage Fright FED. I’d have been checking my shorts after that

This 401-powered Gremlin had pulled right up next to the 10-second barrier, but in the next pass after I took this shot, his rear axle twisted upward, scattering the U-joint and shearing the spring perches from the axle tubes. I divine some heavier traction bars in his future

Out of all the valiant efforts by the bracket racers, we probably appreciated most Kelly Schmidbauer’s. The 17-year-old won the B3 bracket in her 1984 Monte Carlo and last year had won the high school bracket racing championship at Lebanon Valley
Look for full coverage of the event in the December 2007 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines, then keep it tuned here for information on Musclepalooza VII next spring.
