Four-Links - Another beer truck sighting, Jalop hearts Russian military vehicles, another DC garage,

Labatt's White tractor-trailer

* Did anyone else notice the mention in the last SIA Flashback of “a young designer from Toronto, John Hampshire … a native Canadian who had just finished a line of streamlined, customized trucks for Labatt’s” and who worked for designer Tom Hibbard? Okay, maybe I was the only one whose ears perked up at that. And, coincidentally, BigLorryBlog recently posted the above photo of a Labatt’s White built by Smith Bros. of Toronto. I wonder if John Hampshire penned the tractor-trailer combo? While you’re poking around BLB, check out their post on the Sentinel Steamer bus still in operation in Whitby.

GAZ 46

* The boys at Jalopnik had their own little March Military Campaign recently, only not in March and a campaign in duration of just a day and focused solely on Russian military rigs, including the above pictured GAZ-46, which looks an awful lot like a GPA. Hmmm.

Willard Service Station, Washington D.C.

* The guys behind the Shorpy blog can keep these vintage repair shop photos coming. This one comes from another D.C. area service station and includes a pair of rather nice touring cars, albeit sans identification. Maybe I oughta include a Shorpy photo in Lost and Found every now and then? While poking around the Shorpy blog, check out the photo of Margaret Gorman in a Birmingham touring that appears to have been covered in snakeskin.

railcars, photo courtesy New York Times

* Unlike the fella(s) at Telstar Logistics, I was rather unaware of the railcar subculture, but then again, I pay far less attention to railroading than I do many other topics of interest. So I learned quite a bit from the recent New York Times article on railcars, their restoration and their use in unique group outings. Sounds like fun.

E.L. Cord

* So I’ve included links from BigLorryBlog and from Shorpy this time, I might as well include links from the Modern Mechanix blog. An article of most interest to Hemmings readers might be this one on E.L. Cord from the December 1933 issue of Modern Mechanix. Then again, our readers might be equally as interested in a brief on an unnamed three-wheeler built by Ernst Neumann Neander.
