Hemi Charger, before resto, with the Cragar real wheels

If you’re digging the story behind the Hemi-powered Charger that’s on the cover of this month’s (March 2008) Hemmings Muscle Machines, owner Steve Siegel just added another chapter to the book of strange coincidences surrounding the car. It seems he just found and bought (for $78) the set of rear Cragar wheels and Firestone Parnelli Jones L60-15 tires that came with the car when he bought it.

I just picked them up 40 miles from my house. I gave the set away about 21 years ago and could never recall who I gave them to. The seller had them for 15 years and he got them from a friend of his in town who had them for a few years before that. That guy must have gotten them from whoever I gave them away to.

It’s the ’70s all over again. He said the tires still hold air and have about 75 percent of their tread left.

Steve also recently lucked out when speaking with the guys at a local Chrysler dealership. It seemed they had an old Sun Performance Analyzer they were looking to get rid of and Steve coughed up a C-note to bring it home. Of course, one of the first things he did with it was hook up the Charger to see just how well it runs.

Diagnosis: Might need plugs. Now Steve just has to get himself some greasy coveralls, a counter piled high with receipts and unpaid invoices and he can severely overcharge himself!
