1960 all over again.

The AMC channel has produced a new show for this summer called Mad Men about the Madison Avenue advertising business of the early sixites. The show tries to stay spot on in their use of period “artifacts” as props and that includes the cars featured in their outside shots.

Isn’t that an early fifties Hudson in the background?

The historical accuracy of the cars, clothing, trains, billboard advertising and interior decorations add to the overall appeal of the show and make you think you were living in 1960 whether you were actually alive in that year or not. The chain-smoking ad men create the public perceptions of products of the sixties while sipping whiskey for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Although the portrayal role of women in the workplace and in the home can be a little hard to stomach, the show gets kudos for accuracy and for their set design. And the cars are what drew me to watch the show in the first place. Mad Men appears on AMC Thursday nights at 10 p.m.
