CAR GEEK>>SHAKOTAN BOOGIE

Mike Garrett, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, speedhunters.com

The first time I came across Shakotan Boogie was in a small used bookstore in Japan a few years ago. I had heard the comic mentioned before, so I was really excited getting a chance to pick up a few volumes of this cult-favorite of Japan's car enthusiasts. In the time since I've managed to collect about half the series from bookstores all over Japan, and even some here in LA. With this month's theme, it's a perfect time to take a quick look through the pages of Shakotan...

Walden Speed Shop

Antonio Alvendia, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.cardomain.com

Earlier this week we stopped by Walden Speed Shop to observe what makes these world-class metalcrafters tick. Greeting us at the entrance were a beautiful ‘27 T-Bucket with a Buick Nailhead 425 and a partially built ‘36 Ford smuggling an L92 crate motor between its bulging fenders. A gorgeous collection of vintage gas station signs hung like tapestries of automotive art signaled good things in store. Continue reading and view more photos on MotorMavens!

Like a one-man cage match – the LeTourneau Skidder

Daniel Strohl, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.hemmings.com

After yesterday’s post about the LeTourneau road trains, our pal Gary Faules emailed us up to share some photos of another LeTourneau with which he had first-hand experience. My father had a personal relationship with the LeTourneaus for many years. As a matter of fact you may be interested in learning about a vehicle which LeTourneau custom built back in 1954 after some brain-storming with my father for my father to use in his logging mill in Southwestern Oregon. It was called the...

IROC vs. 5.0: Too Close to Call!

Rob Einaudi, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.cardomain.com

This week’s ebay Motors Showdown really hit a chord with people. Even with our ongoing commenting issues (now even I can’t comment, and yes, we are working on it) we got a HUGE response on this one. At first it looked like the IROC was gonna walk away with it, but then the Fox body rallied, and in the end this one is just too close to call! Looks like the 1988 Camaro IROC Z-28 got bid up to $4,550 with the reserve still not met before time ran out. The 1989 Mustang GT auction still...

CAR FEATURE>>BAGGED BENZ W203

Mike Garrett, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, speedhunters.com

Yes, people in Europe do fit airbags on cars besides VW's and Audis - case in point, Mike Neirinck's 2006 Mercedes W203. In case you aren't too familiar with Mercedes chassis codes, a W203 is second generation C-Class sedan. Mike is actually a master of all things air ride. Together with his cousins he owns a small company in Belgium dedicated to custom air ride kits. Being a fan of Mercedes cars, it was only natural that Mike chose one to serve as the company's demo...

Vintage NASCAR Look 1972 Road Runner on Craigslist

Brian Lohnes, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.cardomain.com

When we went for our weekly trip down the dark halls of CraigsList and saw the words Road Runner and NASCAR pop up in a listing, we cringed and clicked the mouse button. We were shocked to find a bitchin’ car that we’d proudly drive the wheels off of. We were convinced that this thing would be a mess. Some hacked up, mullet-worthy creation that had been sitting behind someone’s house for a decade or so. Instead, this is a nicely done car, signed by Richard Petty, that has a...

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1954 Alfa Romeo 1900 SS

Daniel Strohl, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.hemmings.com

Lately, the Friday Hemmings Find of the Day has had something to do with the Six Degrees of Separation topic of the day. To tell the truth, this 1954 Alfa Romeo being offered by the Imperial Palace Auto Collections in Las Vegas is just too pretty to pass up. It does have a Ford link, though; according to the seller’s description: 1954 Alfa Romeo 1900 SS Ghia ID# AR1900C01838 Delivered new to George Walker, then VP of Design at Ford Motor Company and comes with known provenance that...

Dan Strohl, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.cardomain.com

Life got you down? Itching to travel? Tired of seeing your neighbor scratching his butt when you leave the house every morning? What you need, son, is a house on wheels. Yes, sell that boring ol’ house on a foundation and put your money into mobility, maybe something like a 1938 Curtiss Aerocar, towed by a one-of-a-kind Chevrolet-based streamlined tractor, currently for sale on Hemmings.com for $250,000. Abandoned Skylines

Speedhunters, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.cardomain.com

This is so bizarre. Last Friday, after I shot a few drift cars at Nikko circuit, I was on my way to the actual historical town of Nikko, to relax for a bit before heading up to Ebisu for the Drift Matsuri. As I set the Audi S4 I was driving on cruise control, l sat back and enjoyed some tunes from the crisp Bang & Olufsen audio system. After cruising for twenty minutes or so I suddenly had to hit the brakes and pull a U-turn. I couldn’t believe my eyes, I had just driven by an abandoned...

Best of SEMA: Green Cars

Jen Dunnaway, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.cardomain.com

The green category seemed a little subdued this year, and there were a lot of cars we’d already seen during previous visits to SEMA. Still, that didn’t stop us from finding some real standouts in the zero-emissions, electric, hybrid, and alt-fuel divisions–showing that green performance is still alive and well. For one thing, there was the Corsa Motorsports hybrid-electric LMP1 car, which will be running a full series in the American Le Mans Series this year. And the...

Six Degrees of Automotive Separation – Ford

Daniel Strohl, Freitag, 20 November 2009   in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.hemmings.com

If anything, the Hemmings Six Degrees of Automotive Separation Challenge series – specifically, the talented and ingenious people who play along with the challenge every week – have proven that every carmaker in the world is somehow connected to every other carmaker in the world in six degrees or less. If that’s the case, then which company is at the center of it all? GM, due to its size? Jeep, due to its numerous owners? Austin, due to it spreading its seeds all over the...
