Why is this Triumph Mayflower parked in the corner of this compound? It's waiting to be scrapped. It's sacrifice will save the world from global warming and save the UKs motoring industry in the process. According to this thread from Pandaselecta on Retro Rides it's been traded in at a  BMW dealership under the UK Scrappage Scheme for a new BMW Mini.
^^ That's how this entry started originally, but what followed was, to be honest, a bit of a whinge. You people don't want whinging do you? There's plenty of places to find that - especially where ill advised 'cash for clunkers' schemes are concerned and I'm pretty sure we all know the real facts by now. So let's try a different angle. What about all the concerns of hot rodders, modifiers and kit car builders about SVA, type approval and the like? - another subject for much debate on internet forums. How about combining two negatives and making a plus?
This poor, innocent 1951 Triumph Mayflower is a victim...but could it be saved? The scrappage scheme needs it removed from the road - that's the law. But then again the regulations on home-built cars mean that after a few changes the car wouldn't be able to retain it's identity. Do you see where we're headed? Yep, a new chassis, a hefty V8 punch and our pensionable 'Flower is no more...
