Lexus Australia CEO John Roca has all but confirmed that the marque will be releasing a sports version of their GS luxury sedan, in much the same vein as the IS-F.

Rumours of a GS-F aren't new

, but in a recent interview with The Australian newspaper Mr Roca affirmed Lexus' intent to develop the "F" brand as its in-house performance label, like

Mercedes Benz's AMG, or

BMW's M division. Interestingly, The Australian mentioned that the LS could also be in for similar treatment.

The article made no mention of powertrain details or a launch date, but if previous rumours are to be believed the engine will likely be a derivative of the LF-A's V10, which will be hooked up to a strengthened version of the IS-F's 8-speed automatic. However, we think a petrol/electric hybrid powertrain using a version of the IS-F's V8 might also be a possibility. Launch could be as far away as 2012.
