Well, according to Lauren Van den Acker, head of design at Mazda, the next instalment in the MX-5/Miata/Roadster story will feature a drastically different look to the "conservative" lines of the current generation NC.
With its clean, sensible, rounded body, the NC looks like the adopted child amongst its Nagare-inspired siblings in the Mazda stable and it appears rather plain when lined up against something like the new 6. The look is getting outdated rather quickly, and Van den Acker would like to see it replaced with something a little more visually challenging.
"The next MX-5 needs to be a big step. The last one was too conservative and we can't do another car like that," he said.
"We need to make it more dramatic and give it some balls".
There you go folks, you heard the man. Whereas the MX-5 of old have long been criticised for its somewhat feminine styling, you can expect the ND to sport a big, swinging pair that should silence all the haters. After all, nothing says "I'm a man" quite like a sweaty, hairy nutsack.
The ND is expected to debut sometime around 2012, and will still sport the familiar MX-5 formula of low weight, a revvy engine and a FR layout.
