Japan To Get S2000 Type S

The recent appearance of an image of a new Honda S2000 "Type S" is fuelling speculation that Japan may receive a more track-oriented version of the car, much like the exclusive-to-North-America S2000 CR.

The teaser image of the S2000 Type S recently popped up on Honda's website

, and a quick glance shows many similarities between it and the S2000 CR

(below) - the most obvious being that towering rear wing. The aero kit and wheels are a perfect match too, and it seems that the only difference is that the Type S retains the standard soft top, whereas the CR ditched it in favour of an aluminium hard top.

There isn't any solid info on this car yet - Honda's site only mentions that it'll be "coming soon" - however if it is anything like the North American "Club Racer" spec S2000 you can expect a lighter and tighter chassis and suspension along with a revised aero treatment. The CR's power output was exactly the same as that of a standard S2000, so it's unlikely that the Type S will benefit from any work in this area.
