Despite its love-it-or-hate-it styling, Subaru's new Impreza WRX STI has steadily gained acceptance in the enthusiast community as a worthy successor to the outgoing GD model. The performance aftermarket has also welcomed it with open arms, and Japanese tuning company HKS Kansai have revealed their new range of parts for the STI.
The range is all-encompassing, and covers pretty much everything from suspension hardware to seat rails. Nearly every part is targeted at the performance enthusiast, with the only concessions to the show car crowd being the externally-venting SSQV blow off valve and the blued tips of the Legamax muffler (above). For those wanting a quick and easy performance bolt-on, HKS have developed a stainless steel downpipe, catalytic converter, center pipe and the aforementioned Legamax muffler to ease restriction on the exhaust system and free up some power. At ¥351,750, the whole system doesn't come cheap, however the budget-conscious modifier can simply purchase each section one at a time.
Speaking of bolt-ons, HKS have also extended their Hipermax III coilover range to include the GH STI. Springrates are 6kg/mm front and 5kg/mm rear for the regular Hipermax III, and an ultra stiff 12kg/mm front and 10kg/mm rear for the circuit-spec Hipermax III Sports. There's also a variety of chassis braces for both the front and rear crossmembers, as well as a rear suspension tower and boot floor brace that fits neatly within the spare wheel well.
On the electronics side, the HKS F-Con iS piggyback ECU allows adjustment of both the fuel/air ratio and ignition timing, while the EVC boost controller enables users to increase boost and enhance turbine response. The VALCON Pro has also been approved for use on the GH STI, and gives tuners the ability to control the EJ20's variable valve timing phasing.
