After setting off from Daytona Beach, our friend John Macartney has made it as far as New Jersey in his coast-to-coast charity drive, and he reports that the Stag – nicknamed “uncle jack” – is running well. At his most recent maintenance stop, at Ragtops & Roadsters in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, a faulty electrical connection to the overdrive was repaired, and some mangled brake bleed nipples were replaced. R&R also tuned the carburetors, reset the ignition timing and changed the oil.
“All in all, ‘uncle jack’ seemed pretty chuffed at this attention and demonstrated his approval with a silky smooth idle and encouraging roars from the back end when the right foot is applied in the expectation of horses,” John reports.
John is criss-crossing the U.S., with forays into Canada, to raise money for three charities that deal with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, with the support of a number of Triumph clubs and enthusiasts. He’s scheduled to visit us in Bennington, Vermont, tomorrow, July 16, accompanied by members of Brits of the Hudson and the Adirondack Triumph Association . His adventures are updated daily at the TTAC website , where you can also see his route map. When the run is over, the Stag will be auctioned off, possibly at Hershey this fall.
