SIA Flashback - Chubby Checkers, Fillerup! and Ford?s Hide-A-Bed

SIA already looked at the way a number of manufacturers (Ford, GM, Chrysler, REO) experimented with alternative drivetrain layouts in the 1930s and immediate pre-war era by the time SIA #18, August-October 1973, came out, and it seems Checker similarly looked at alternative powertrain packaging, though at a later date (1945) and for somewhat different reasoning (to maximize passenger space and economy of operation). The experiment didn’t result in production of any sort, but it did put one prototype cab on the road.
