My folks, who spotted the Rok Rodz Unimog and sent up pictures a couple months ago, said they keep seeing this building in Hickory, North Carolina, with a Rambler sign painted on the exterior wall. I, of course, needed photographic evidence, so I enlisted them into the Lost AMC Dealership effort and gave them a couple other addresses in Hickory to check out.
First on the list, Benny Vount Imports at 1234 Center St., is now Paramount Kia, complete with a newly built structure. Second, Bumgarner AMC/Jeep at 633 4th St. SW, is now JE’s Honda Motorcycles, with a building that may have existed in the time of AMC.
Neither of which correspond with the building my folks mentioned, located at 525 10th St. Blvd. NW, now the home to Larry’s Auto Services. Larry confirmed it used to be a Rambler dealership years ago, but directed me to speak with Robbie Mosely (could be Mozely), whose father once owned the dealership. “He should be in the phone book,” Larry assured me. Not. So I’ll just have to instruct my folks to keep an eye out for this Mosely character.
