* Retrofuturism’s one of those things I’d love to explore further if I had the time. Along with atompunk and jetpunk and all the other ways one can celebrate the forward-thinking optimism of the middle of the century without falling into the rockabilly trap. Anyway. Professor Michael Stoll of Hochschule Augsburg has uploaded a wonderful collection of Syd Mead retrofuturistic renderings (and so has GrainEdit.com ), commissioned by U.S. Steel in the early 1960s. * It’s amazing what rabbit holes the Internet can lead you down. A post on Off Road Action , pointing to an article on Off-Road.com, regarding Suzuki’s four-wheel-drive history , led to LJ10.com , which celebrates vintage Suzuki four-bys, which led to pics of Jeff Simons’ 1988 Samurai done up General Lee style , and eventually to the above wicked pissah photo.

* AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! *head essplodes* (via )

* According to Jim, over at Route 66 Chronicles, the Old Trails Garage in Kingman, Arizona (near the intersection of Third and Andy Devine ), will soon be restored . Don’t know if they’re headed back to the above-pictured configuration, but they could certainly do worse.

* Finally, the Michael Paul Smith photos from a few weeks ago certainly grabbed your attention, and Blog dos Carros Antigos has added a few more of those amazing photos .
