Four-Links - rally Eagles, appliance scooter, German Model A, old ads

Say what you will, AMC Eagles will have their day in the collector car world: Everybody seems to remember them fondly (save for Heather), they were extremely capable off-road and several models were relatively rare. But I couldn’t recall ever seeing much about Eagles in rally racing. As it turns out, they were used in the sport, along with Pacers, Hornets and Gremlins, judging from the treasure trove of vintage rally photos at RealAutoSport.com. * I like the engineering behind new scooters, but I can’t stand the styling. Same for artist Nemo Gould, who decided to strip the bodywork from a 1980s era Honda Elite 125 and fashion his own body from vintage appliance parts and street lamp hoods. (via)

* Didn’t see this one in the European Fords SIA Flashback. H.A.M.B. member James D recently found a set of postcards advertising a Model A built by the Ludewig Brothers in Essen. Doesn’t look much like a Model A anymore.

* I’ve been meaning to scan all the old car ads out of a couple LIFE magazines I picked up at a garage sale recently. Automotive ads have always been graphically ahead of the curve, so to speak, though they certainly had a degree of vivaciousness in the 1950s that they don’t have nowadays. The Greaser Garage must have had the same idea and went ahead and scanned several ads from the local library’s LIFE magazine collection. (via)
