Another ?Bobber Bob? Decker original

 joclair, 02.11.2007 in Partner- und Mitglieder-Blogs, blog.hemmings.com

After posting the earlier story about Bob’s custom-made bobber, I began hearing from a bunch of people who know him and eventually from Bob himself. One of his friends corrected me on how fast his bobber would go (60 mph not 45) and his doctor contacted me to tell me I got his age wrong and he was actually in his sixties. I guess Bob thought we wouldn’t believe him if he just told us himself. Anyway, he and some of his friends sent in some more pictures of his other projects which we wanted to share.

Excuse the Suburban in the background. This is the Indian look-alike we had mentioned in the earlier posting

This bike is again powered by a go-kart centrifugal clutch but pre-dates the bobber, which explains why Bob used a 6hp Tecumseh motor the first time around instead of the 18hp V-twin he used on the bobber. Bob told me this one was his first attempt at bike building and the frame for this bike is from an old Simplex.

From 30 feet, you would think this was an original Indian. But the closer you get to it, the more you have to scratch your head and think “this is something else entirely”

This bike is strictly for show, Bob never registered it for road use, but it is still light enough to travel easily to shows in his area and he gets many questions about the entire bike-building process. The full fenders were made from old bicycle-type mud guards and are about half as wide as vintage Indian fenders would have been.

Note the chain guard bolted to the rear fender, it looks like it came off an old Columbia Rambler or Firebolt bicycle

Bob also built a Simplex board track racer replica I will post at a later date. Now that his gaggle of friends know where to send pictures, we’re sure to be kept up to date on his future projects.
