While on a photo shoot the other night, I noticed a Corvette peeking out of the barn. I had some time to kill after the shoot, so I asked to see it. Car guys love to show off their stuff anyway, so I got a tour and some stories. The ‘67 convertible that I glimpsed turned out to be an original 427 3×2 that the owner Pro Streeted. A sticker on the vent window reads “No Numbers Match.” The other Corvette, a ‘57 dual-quad 283 car, the owner and his son pulled from a junkyard in Utah, then drove all the way back to New York state. Note the trailer hitch.

Behind the ‘67, a 1948 GMC Motor Coach took up a good portion of the barn. It originally served as a Greyhound bus, then at some point a local decided to turn it into a party bus specifically to take his motorcycle buddies down to Daytona every year. The current owner wanted to turn it into a camper, complete with queen-size bed, but the Daytona-bound local refused to sell, claiming he only wanted to sell it to somebody who would appreciate it for what it was. Of course, nobody did, so here it sits.

And of course, the aluminum scrappers have been all over the owner to sell it to them, figuring that aluminum now sells for $2 per pound and the bus has at least 10,000 pounds worth of aluminum throughout. But the 6-71 diesel - supercharged, natch - runs just fine, so the owner has the bus on his to-restore list.

Before that, though, he plans to “finish” his 1936 Chevrolet rat rod.

And then looking up, we saw a half-finished sprint car/hot rod frame that I wouldn’t mind having to play with. I think I made a new friend.
