To be perfectly honest I never enjoyed catching the bus to school, and to this day I avoid bus trips at all costs. However, I think we can give a round of applause to Albert Luce, the owner of two Ford dealerships in Georgia back in 1927. According to Gizmag, Luce changed history when he started building durable steel-bodied buses on Ford Model T chassis, unlike his competitors who were only using wood and canvas at the time. Within 8 years, all bus manufacturers were using steel-body construction, and thanks to Luce, bus travel became safer for people throughout the world, including generations of children traveling to class by school-bus. Buoyed by his success, Luce eventually sold his Ford dealerships to concentrate on building buses, and his famous Blue Bird Body Company is still in operation today. The first bus that Luce produced, Blue Bird No 1, goes on display at the Henry Ford Museum in May.
