It was almost inevitable after the new CAFE 35 regulations were released: GM is now considering alternate powerplants for the new Camaro. Don't worry, the high-horse SS version V8 will still be available. However, there are some alternatives under consideration, like a turbocharged V6 or even dual-mode hybrid V8, like the one in the Tahoe. The really sad thing is that GM also has been reported saying that it'll drop all rear wheel drive projects (Impala, Lacrosse, G8 replacement) and the new DOHC V8 that Cadillac was scheduled to get in 2009. I don't know if this signifies and end to an era that never really got started, or if it means that we're all going to have to blur our definition of what makes a muscle car. What do you think: can a hybrid Camaro be considered a muscle car?
