What you see in the above photo is no ordinary UK-registered E60 5-series BMW, even with a rear screen wiper. Nope, the car in question is apparently a silver 1993 Subaru Impreza.
Confusing? Wait until you see the rest of the car.
Ta-dah! You’re not getting a BMW at all, but an Audi. Excellent! By buying this Sonic Blue Mica-coloured what-the-hell-is-it, you actually get three cars for the affordable price of one. The current bid as of time of writing hovers somewhere at 1,500 GBP, so it’s even cheap for a JDM import WRX – as that’s what it is underneath, or in the middle.
By the way, is the Audi ring emblem so difficult to pry from the grille, that it’s been easier to just blank it with what looks like dashboard-grade rubber?
The middle section is still unmistakably Fuji Heavy Industries, even with the doorhandles smoothed over. By the way, I love the integration of the rear door with the Bangle butt trunklid shutline. It matches!
Did I say the doorhandles are done away with? Not the driver’s handle. Apparently the guy likes to play it safe, in case the remote keyfob fails.
Inside, things are pretty normal. The steering wheel is a terrible abomination, but otherwise there isn’t anything out of the ordinary Impreza WRX-ness. The speedo has been converted to an MPH one, which suggests the Impreza has been in the country for some time. This probably means the underbody doesn’t look too good, as used JDM cars driven for years in the UK usually have significant rust problems unless the standard-issue Japanese underbody treatment has been beefed up.
Under the hood, the boxer lump lies where it should. It does look like the hoses have been sourced from Blue Man Group, and you can see the strut towers are stil stock silver; meaning that the engine hasn’t come out when the car has been modified.
There are several possibilities to try to rationalize the transformation of the Subaru. One: the car has been shunted from front and rear, and instead of finding suitable Impreza parts the guy has only had to make do with an Audi front clip and a BMW butt. Two: the guy really can’t decide what he likes. Three: He’s a serial hit-and-runner, and really likes to confuse eyewitnesses. At least the plates are the same, front to rear…
So, for 1,500 GBP and with nine days left in the eBay auction: Would you grab it?
