It would seem Evel Knievel hurt himself on quite a regular basis. When you look back on his stunt career it is amazing just how many of his jumps went bad, I think people turned up ready to see a fail or a win, either would keep them happy.
“There are a lot of myths about my injuries. They say I have broken every bone in my body. Not true. But I have broken 35 bones. I had surgery 14 times to pin and plate. I shattered my pelvis. I forget all of the things that have broke”
A shattered pelvis doesn’t sound like fun. Interestingly the ever reliable (LOL) Wikipedia claims “The 433 broken bones he suffered during his career earned an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the survivor of “most bones broken in a lifetime”.
Without a doubt the most famous stuntman, I wonder if he has the record for surviving the most motorbike accidents in general as well. I do know he held the record for jumping the most stacked cars for 35 years before it was broken in 2008, what seems ridiculous now though is most modern moto x riders jump huge gaps without even thinking about it, shows how much bike technology has come on, it must have been hard work heaving a heavy Harley Davidson off a ramp!
Apparently the current longest jump done on a Motorcycle was done by Australian Robbie Maddison who jumped an incredible 107m and made it all look very simple as you can see in the video below. Evel Knievel’s longest successful jump was 133 feet (40.5m).
