At first glance, a prime candidate for a Billetproof show, this 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 two-door hardtop for sale on Hemmings.com harbors a secret under its hood: Ford’s famed E-code dual-quad 312-cu.in. V-8, an engine more commonly seen in contemporary Thunderbirds. Though it was long ago converted to a tri-power setup, we imagine the restorer who gets his hands on this Ford will quickly change it back to its stock intake setup. From the seller’s description:

In storage last 46 years. Title – California pink slip dates 1966. Fairlane 500 2-dr hardtop. Odometer 83,425 miles.

Early in her life, dual 4s were changed to trip deuces carburetion and custom headers. Ford’s 312 V-8 with trip deuces carburetion many times out performed the E Series factory dual 4s. Thus many were changed as seen here. The majority of these 1957 Ford performance cars were destroyed early. Very rare to find a real factory E Series passenger car today.

This 1957 E Series has the original red paint in the floors, inside doors and trunk. The exterior was amateurishly refinished in red oxide primer. Fortunately, no evident attempt has been made to make this 1957 E-code run and drive in 45 years. As a car restorer with 40+ years of experience, I would prefer not to make her run before the drivetrain is professionally restored, to avoid internal damage. We hooked up a hot battery and cranked the engine over, so the engine is not stuck.
