The Indianapolis 500 marked the 100th anniversary of its first running last year, and one unusual – and appreciated – part of the big bash took place well before the race itself. The Celebration of Vehicles was a show of production vehicles that coincided with qualifying weekend. People liked it.

So the speedway is bringing it back, with plenty of new happenings in the lineup. The second Celebration of Automobiles will take place on Saturday, May 12, the day that the track formally opens for the month of May with IZOD IndyCars taking to the Speedway. New this year will be the Vintage and Historic Car Show, with 200 vehicles ranging from 1920 through 1970 positioned in the Pagoda Plaza near the garage area. The track expects concours champions from Pebble Beach and Amelia Island to participate, and the show will be judged by a panel that includes drivers of the Indy 500.

Also new to this event is the Emerging Tech Showcase, focused on the Grand Prix jointly sponsored by IMS and Purdue University. While this is going on, a major car show for late-model vehicles will be going on inside Turn 4. For full info, visit IndianapolisMotorSpeedway.com.
