Everybody’s sure to have their own opinion on which car is the most American. The Ford Model T certainly ranks up there, along with many muscle cars, any AMC painted in the red/white/blue scheme, the Corvette, and the chromemobiles of the 1950s. The Impala SS certainly deserves a spot in the top 10, and this 409-powered 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible for sale on Hemmings.com makes a strong case for the full-size Bowtie. From the seller’s description:

Original 409 SS Convertible with a recently completed frame-off restoration. Although the speedometer reads over 68,000 miles those are original miles and the car has less than a thousand miles since its completion Almost everything used in this restoration was NOS. Most parts such as the alternator and radiator [new replacement w/4 cores] are original date code correct and have been refurbished. The engine is a true numbers matching dual quad 425 HP 409 and it has positraction just like the Beach Boys call for. The dual AFB carbs are correct/rebuilt but they are not numbers matching to the car. This car just won AACA Senior status in June 2012 and it also won at the Eastern States Concourse deElegance at Skytop in the Poconos on June 24th… a crystal Bethlehem Star was awarded in its class as a performance car. What else can I say, the car is a gem, the real deal and well worth the asking price. I love my car and I’m sorry to see it go but the time has come.
