We've mentioned before our love of shoes and our obvious love of all things lowrider, so we're always pleased when our interests collide. With it coming up to Christmas we've come over all capitalist consumers and gone on the hunt for suitable footwear.
First up we've got C1rca's range of Low Rider shoes. Part of their al50 range you've got a choice of two, firstly black with lowrider details :

It's the start of a new series here on RSM, we're setting the camera to close-up and taking a look at individual parts of the cars we love - celebrating those little touches that draw us enthusiasts in every time. First up we have...Mk1 Cortina Rear Lights:
What was the designer thinking as he penned the back end of the iconic Mk1 Cortina? Why did he choose to put a circle into the vee shape he'd drawn? Did the lights come first? Was he drunk? We may never know, but whatever...

I doubt there is a car enthusiast that hasn't dreamed of stumbling across a barn, or a garage that has a car already in it, even a humble Austin Allegro would do for most people, but it is those real jackpot finds that cause the biggest stir.
Hemmings.com blog has a great entry on a new barn find in New York It always amazes me that these collections sit either undiscovered or unrevealed for so long. The images on this entry have come from that find. Check the entry on Hemmings for...

We're always on the lookout for worldwide scenes, pretty much any country that has cars in any kind of number will have a car scene of some sort. For us it is even better if they have a classic car scene, so I was delighted to find out about one in Thailand.
As far as we can tell so far the internet presence is centred around Bangkok Classic Car forum sadly we have no useful Thai translation software available to us, so we're attempting to muddle through with some words in...

So its time for another link log and we've got a diverse one for you today.
Let’s start off with some home grown hot rodding with the Nervous Surgeons. There is lots to see here, with their current builds and a lot of their history on the site, it is a great insight into hot rod and custom building in the UK as it is lived as well as some great back story with the 'draggin up our past' sections.
Now we head east for Gacyan Racing for some models. Not only are there great...

Okay so this isn't strictly retro, but it is intriguing how far and fast this has spread around the internet. In case you've not seen it you can check it out now :
Ken Block Gymkhana Practice from Ken_Block on Vimeo.
What is so interesting about this is the way it has been filmed, we've seen many many highly skilled drivers put their videos on the net before, usually static in car or a handy cam film from outside. The difference here is that this video has...

Some photos for you today, from an event bought to our attention by the My Ride Is Me website. Having checked out this post I headed straight to their gallery to see what was what, and boy was I impressed with the cars.
However here at Retro Scene Mag we're not happy with one set of photographs, so we went on the hunt for more from the same event. Flickr came up with this set from Via Boy which is where the photos for this post came from.
A bit more digging and we found a huge...

I'll be honest with you, when I got sent a link about Guyana's racing scene I had to look it up on Wikipedia, I had literally no idea where it was, Africa maybe? Caribbean Islands? As it turns out it is mainland South America, just above Brazil.
Really geography isn't our strong point, but cars are. One of my very favourite things is to discover a countries car scene, or at least part of it and the possibility of finding more. It almost doesn't matter if its new or old...

We do enjoy the link between lifestyle and cars here, from that group of friends you always meet at shows, to the "lifestyle" additions you may make to your cars for practical of style reasons.
As well as our previously documented unhealthy obsession with trainers, we've also got a thing for BMX', we're not the only ones, but things can go back the other way. Bob Haro is a bit of a genius, BMX rider, entrepreneur and for us today artist. Check out his Beetle on Centra wheels with...

Some of you may remember that I had the chance to go to the Goodwood FOS press day earlier this year. We used a selection of photos for the feature we wrote at the time, however we didn't have means to share them all.. Now we do, so go and check out or Flickr set of images from the event :

Sorry about the break in service on Friday and yesterday, to
make it up to you we have a link log for some very cool things that should keep
you more than amused for a good few hours.
First up we have one of the internet’s most precious things,
an awesome forum thread. This one comes
from the Atlas F1 Bulletin Board, as I type this thread is 24 pages long and
contains a shed load of images of club level British motorsport, this is the life’s
blood of motorsport in the UK, sure...

I guess we all have that dream, where our garage is unlimited in size and we can afford to buy all those cars we want, from the great, significant cars to those unloved and forgotten ones. Not many of us get to realise that dream, sometimes those that do only concentrate on those big money super cars and forget the lower level rides, so we tip our hats to people like Nick Mason, Jay Leno* and Italspeed for having such diverse collections.
Jay Leno has a great website, Nick Mason has a...

We didn't intend for this week to be so dominated by Japanese cars, but when something demands your attention, sometimes you just have to share it.
We have long been a fan of the crazy world of bosozoku, as well as being intrigued by the lengths people go to one-up each other on more 'normal' rides, so imagine our delight when we find a bosozoku who is going directly for the craziest exhausts ever. This picture literally made our eyes pop out :
The driver is dressed as a...

As established yesterday we hit the Sushi Sunday breakfast club at Goodwood over the weekend and grabbed as many photos as we could of what retro machinery was there. You can see the feature here : http://www.retroscenemag.com/Features/Articles/SushiSunday/index.html

For some people the very idea of Front Wheel Drive cars is anathema to all that is great about cars, to others they are the perfect solution for size and handling. We love cars regardless of their driven wheels, what we love even more is people that take what on the surface is a 'wrong idea', and push it as far as possible.
One of those areas where people are going all out is FWD drag cars. Traditionally the domain of rear wheel drive cars the world of front wheel drive drag...

There are a handful of events that I really look forward to
seeing the photos from each year, one of best of those events is the Mooneyes
All Odd Nationals. The 11th Event was
held this year on 21st September in Odaiba Aomi the artificial island in Tokyo
Harbour side.
Each year the All Odds Nationals has a theme, previously
we've had "Sunny Day" and "510 Day" which mean those types
of car tend to have more at the show.
This year for 620 day, so the event had a lot of Datsun...

I remembered the other day seeing some photos in the only issue of Motoraver magazine that I've been able to get my hands on, they were of some very cool looking cars under the banner of Prototyp Hamburg. Whilst cruising around the wonders of the world wide web I came across another reference to it, so decided to dig a bit and see what was what.
It turns out that Prototyp Hamburg is a museum focussed on cars and car history, with a particular interest in Porsches and other German...

One of the great things with the internet is the fact that very different car cultures are all represented and available to us with just a few clicks. If you really want to get a great flavour of the Californian low riding scene then the place to head to is the blog of Jae Bueno. The site acts as both a document for Jae's experiences in and around the Californian scene and a place for him to share his fantastic photographs.
We grabbed a few minutes of his time to find out a bit more...

Found this via http://oldstyle- VW.blogspot.com/
For those not into street rods and such like the name will probably be unfamiliar, however if you know the scene you'll know the name. Roy Brizio is one of the most respected rod builders in the US of A. The shop is the stuff of legends and the cars it produces are the stuff that prize winning dreams are made from.
So having been put on to it by Oldstyle VW, it was time to do some digging. Here for your reading pleasure is the result...

Continuing on the path of catching up on a couple of shows there were a couple more biggies taking place over the past few weeks.
First up is the 4th Japanese Classic Car Show in California, this has become the premier Japanese classic car show for retro car fans outside of Japan. The quality of cars on show rivals that of the Japanese Domestic scene, and it has the backing of manufacturers now days, if only our UK branches of these companies could be so forward thinking as to show the...

In our brief quiet spell we've missed a couple of shows that you should probably know about, so there will be a handful of catch up posts over this week.
Today we have the Car Style show in Hamburg, Germany and Bug Run in Sweden.
Like a lot of European events Car Style is a whole cross scene affair with modern cars rubbing shoulders with retro machinery and hot rods. The influences seem to flow between the various makes, years and styles, which makes this sort of event particularly...

It is difficult some times when faced with the sea of bland modernity in our current car industry to remember that once upon a time cars were often distinctively different, not just in looks but in technology and engineering. Even during their time though these cars stood out for being particularly unusual. They all however managed to be successful in spite of, or some times because of, their difference.

Despite the lukewarm reception the NSU Ro80 received and the...
