I’m not a big fan of uniforms. Seriously, if I wanted to wear a uniform, I would have joined the Marines. But when we come to SEMA, I wear the rock CarDomain shirts as everyone else, and I’m fine with that. But there’s no way in hell I’d put on the getup that the poor bastards over at the Rugged Liner are wearing. Yellow Crocs? Really? It looks like these guys are being punished or something…

There is one thing about Japan that you’ve just got to love. No matter how many tuning shops and modified cars there are out there, finding something very special and most importantly of all, different, is not as hard as some may think. It all comes down to a need to be unique and stand out from the crowd, something that becomes very evident if you spend a little time in Japan. This need to be different is precisely what drove the owner of the exceptionally clean JZX80 you see here to go out...

In our recent post on the Steinwinter, Jetto’s truck from TV’s “The Highwayman,” I mentioned that Manfred Steinwinter was influenced in his design after seeing the Büssing Decklaster, another cantilevered cabunder design from 1965. According to onlinetruckers.org, both front axles steered, and the whole rig ran on air suspension. Büssing, which claims to have built the world’s first six-cylinder truck engine in 1909, was around from 1903 to 1971, when it was...

You know, when you see a movie star, you immediately think of the roles they’ve played and the cool movies they’ve been in. But, you don’t think “Hey, that guy has to eat, right?” I mean, watching Tom Hanks or Cher walking down the dog food aisle at Ralph’s isn’t normal, you know what I’m saying? Or, is it? The answer is a definite “yes.” These people have to eat, just like the rest of us shmo’s. Not all of them send “their...

Back in 2002 Ford brought back its iconic Thunderbird. The Thunderbird was given a retro design (actually starting the whole retro look) making it seem as if it was taken straight from the 50s. The Thunderbird was discontinued in 2005 after dropping sales (possibly due to introduction of the redesigned Mustang). Well cry no more T-Bird lovers, it’s said that the T-bird will return in 2012 with a retro look, keeping the classic two seater design. Via Thunderbirdnest  Thanks ___nes___! ...

The premise that “you are what you drive” is a concept that has been debated fiercely since the advent of the automobile. I contend, with limited caveats, that this is a factual truth. Now before you write off my article as a one-sided plea to evaluate people based on their automotive budget, I want you to make an effort to remove the monetary aspect of this paradigm for just a moment. Obviously, as we look at all cars on the road, (and in yards, fields, museums, etc. for that matter) it is...

So I’ll forever be impressed with the big motor/little car modifications, and at last Thursday’s Hemmings Cruise In in Bennington Vermont I saw the one of the coolest of them all. I mean I’ve seen big block Vegas and even a 472 caddy engine in a Nash Metropolitan, but I haven’t seen this. You are looking at a creation that should be named Frankenstein, because it’s bound to draw and angry mob of diehard Mopar fans with pitchforks ready to kill it because they just...

With apologies to Jeff Forxworthy here is a list of twelve things that just might make you the owner of an old car. It was compiled by Yee Chan, a graphic designer whose artistic touches will be seen in the next issue of JNC. We can’t reveal everything just yet but it’s going to look [...]

Not including stupid, burnout-related accidents, this is one of the dumbest motorcycle crashes I’ve seen. Sure, the rider in the frame might have come in too hot—hey, it’s happened to me—but the guy on the camera bike? What the hell is he thinking? If his buddy is obviously wrecking, why exactly does he follow? Of course, that’s not the only problem here. In following his buddy, the camera guy avoids being hit by a GMC rounding the corner by what looks like inches. It’s not clear who’s “1st...

Packendes Langstreckenrennen auf der Ardennen-Achterbahn in Spa. 83 Youngtimer-Piloten waren angetreten, um das legendäre 500-km-Rennen Egons 500 für sich zu entscheiden. Vom Start weg ging es heiß her.

Modifying a 2001 Ford Taurus often presents its challenges, and often makes me a little more than angry. Setting aside all of that, I love my car. My car is literally my best friend. It’s something that I constantly think about, and spend a great deal of time with. The thing I like most about my car is that it is my way to just leave reality, leave all problems behind and not worry about anything. Everyone has a special reason they love their ride. What does your ride represent to you? Is your...

I had an argument today about the Nissan Maxima on a public site (I won’t name names here). Usually I’m not one to gloat, but this so-called “lover” of cars, was so out of context and incorrect that I had to tell him off. He kept arguing with me about a Nissan, and after the years of mistakes I’ve made in learning about Nissan/Datsun/Infiniti, I’ve finally gleaned some useful things, and I think it’s safe to say I know quite a bit more then most other...

Noch günstiger, noch billiger, noch mehr Rabatte: Wer neue Reifen kaufen will, wird überall mit verlockenden Angeboten konfrontiert. It goes without saying that any youthful hours spent drawing pictures of cars are hours well spent, and doubly so if the sketches are of your own design. Now, how much better would it be if your drawings could win you a trip someplace cool – someplace like the Monterey Peninsula during the week of Pebble Beach? That’s the deal. Hagerty, the collector-car insurance company, is offering in its inaugural Young Designers Contest. Hagerty is inviting teenagers ages 13 to 17 to draw a modern...

When it comes down to it, there’s one universal truth. You can’t fight the man. Oh go ahead and fight, my weary and simple minded friends, but you’re gonna lose. That’s why I’ve decided to stop fighting and get with America’s Program. Like most American’s, I don’t want a stylish car with features [...]
