By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief We didn't really get out much during the day while we were at SEMA. We were mostly inside wandering the halls of the convention center, or holed up in the media room hammering away on our laptops. But Andy Thomason, who posts over at VWVortex, got out and about during the day while he was at SEMA, and he took some great shots around the city. Be sure to check out all the pics at VWVortex. This set is mostly buildings and exotic cars, but the Charger shot below...

By Katherine Helmetag AKA atomicalex VW's been putting out some aggressive bodykits for the past few years, and this one comes attached to a high performance Passat CC. Power comes from an APR Stage 3 turbo kit on the 2.0T engine. The kit has three tuning modes—performance, GT, and Eco—that vary in output and fuel economy. Big brakes and forged wheels put the power down. Derek Jenkins, VW's designer, hooked up the interior with two-tone leather Recaros and black chrome trim. More...

By Jen Dunnaway Editor It was only two weeks ago that we saw it get paint, and now Vivid Racing's hot Evo X is all back together and ready to go. They also threw on some color-matched Rotora 6-piston and 4-piston brakes and some other sweet last-minute mods. We can't wait to see this car in person in the Toyo booth next week! Check out page 3 of Dan's ride page for details and more views of the (almost) finished product.

By Jamie Hunsdale Audio Engineer A couple of weeks back, John and I took a trip from Seattle to Portland in CarDomain's 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged test car. Our goals were simple: John was there to put Jag's hot new Kitty through its paces, and I was there to evaluate its Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Johnny is my best buddy, and he wanted my opinion on the the stereo because because I'm an audio engineer, and I spend virtually every waking second thinking about sound. So obviously, I...

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief Here's another build that we'll be following in the coming months—the Vivid Racing GT-R. Vivid Racing picked up this GT-R for $81,000, so I guess prices for these cars are coming down. Maybe it has something to do with John's rants about Big Brother Nissan.

By John Coyle Editor Don't worry, nobody's turning this sick machine into a Prius. When this baby is complete, it's going to be pushing 650 horsepower, but since it's going to be at SEMA—and you won't exactly be able to see all those ponies while its parked in the Toyo booth—the Vivid guys decided it needed some eye-catching paint, and damn, did they succeed! Is that color sick or what? As you can see, the calipers will be painted to match, and the black leather interior will be finished...

By Jen Dunnaway Editor I got to Road Atlanta a little early this morning to watch the TDI Jettas complete the half-hour mad scramble that was the final race of their series. It was awesome! Lots of close, three-wide and even four-wide racing as the drivers battled door-to-door for that quarter-million dollar award—the $100,000 championship prize, plus an additional $150,000 bonus they get for signing with a sponsor. In the end, there was a desperate battle between Josh Hurley in the No....

By John Coyle Editor Many Mustang purists would probably prefer any Pony-themed bike be based off a Harley, but as far as performance goes, there are far worse places to start than with a Hayabusa. And while the overall shape of the bike doesn't really invoke the 1968 Shelby GT500KR that served as its inspiration, the guys at Voo Doo Industries have incorporated plenty of details to give it more of Mustang vibe. How trick does the knock-off spinner on the rear wheel look? Three more pics...

By Ryan Porter Marketing Guy First off, I can't stand the original Sciroccos. But when I saw the photos of the modern version at the Paris Auto Show, I thought it was awesome, and said to myself: "Now that's a VW I'd actually own!" Unfortunately, earlier this year, VW supposedly decided not to bring the new Scirocco to the US. So what's one doing cruising around in Arizona? Check out the photo I scoped from Jarod DeAnda's blog over at Fatlace.

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief Here's the EVO X that Vivid Racing is building for SEMA this year. The car features a body kit by Valdi Sport and the Agency Power twin scroll GT35R turbo kit helps get this beast up to 650 hp. Check out the Vivid Racing ride page for more pics and all the specs. We'll have more updates on this car as we get closer to SEMA.

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief Originally I was thinking of putting the V6 Eclipse against the V6 Mustang, but the V6 Eclipse is priced about the same as the Mustang GT. So even with a picture of a pink Mustang and the sportier Eclipse, the V6 Mustang still dominated this week's showroom showdown by a 2 to 1 margin (and for those of you who think you can stuff the ballot, we can see when someone votes more than once). I thought that "John" summed this one up nicely: I am definitely an...

By Rob Editor-in-Chief This week's Showroom Showdown is the battle of the base models. The base Mustang is RWD, has a 210 hp V6 and weighs 3,300 pounds. The Eclipse GS is FWD, has a 168 hp four banger and weighs 3,263 pounds. Both are available with manual trannies, have useless back seats and come in right around $20k. Which would you choose?

By Katherine Helmetag AKA atomicalex A pic purporting to be the center console of the Chevy Volt has popped up over in Motive Mag's Car Lounge forum. It shows a console that positively smells of the same designer who did the Saab BioPower concept for GM. None of the GM insiders are disavowing it, so do we have a winner? I think we do!

By Ben Schaffer Bulletproof Automotive I loved the stories that people made up when I said that Vin Diesel broke my car earlier in the year. Sure my car was broken a bit, and I showed readers of this blog a photo of the aftermath, but I couldn't at the time say why it was broken on set. People started assuming that he drove it into a wall and all sorts of crazy stuff! Anyway, the trailer for Fast and Furious was released recently and my car was in the trailer (very briefly). I thought...

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief Boy, GM sure is coy. Check out these teaser shots of the production version of the Volt. Looks like a Chevy, doesn't it? GM is also claiming that they will have fifty Volt prototypes running around on public roads by the end of the year. Source: Jalopnik.

By Jen Dunnaway Editor I'm not sure that a 2005 Grand Prix is everyone's idea of ultimate luxury, but I'm sure the builders got in a lot less trouble than this guy did when he converted a Ferrari 360 to stretched. Besides, the inside looks as gaudy and plush as any other limo. Check it out!

By Ben Schaffer Bulletproof Automotive I must admit, I started my craze for JDM tuning like most Americans who were never so lucky as to have the classic early Evos, Subys and GT-Rs... I started with Honda. Maybe if I grew up in Japan, I would have been all about Nissan from my birth, but being an American in the mid 90s, Honda were IT. The first car I modified was a '93 Prelude VTEC and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Mugen was the pinnacle of JDM (and still could be, depending...

By Rob Editor-in-Chief If you're crazy rich and are looking for a good daily driver, these cars seem like pretty good candidates. Both rides are quite exclusive, look amazing and pack potent V8s. The new GranTurismo only comes with an automatic, but you get a small back seat for the kids. And they both come in right around $110k--hey, that's chump change! So which would you choose, the Aston Martin or the Maserati?

By John Coyle Editor In my opinion, Maser's four-door is already the best looking sedan on the road—sorry Jag—so the engineers didn't make any major changes for the 2009 model. After all, why mess with perfection? And while I know that the Italian Stallion will definitely best Porsche's forthcoming Panamera in the looks department, I can't wait to see how the two machines compare on the track. If I had to bet now, I think I'd have to call it for the German, but that's just a gut feeling. In...

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief The Vibe beat the Matrix by a 2 to 1 margin in our latest Showroom Showdown. So are the domestic fans starting to outweigh the import crowd on CarDomain? Or do we just have a lot of Pontiac guys? Or is it simply that the Vibe is a little less goofy looking? Tune in Wednesday for the next Showroom Showdown!

By Rob Editor-in-Chief They're basically the same car, or are they? Both are available with 1.8 liter or 2.4 liter four bangers, automatic or 5 speed manual trannies, and you can choose between FWD and AWD. And they each have sporty versions (GT for the Vibe, XRS for the Matrix). The Vibe is built in the USA and the Matrix is built in Canada. There are some subtle difference in the pricing, warranties and standard features, but I'm guessing for most people it will come down to looks and...

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief Is this unmarked Studebaker detective car amazing or what? A large group of vintage cop cars from the New York Police Museum made an appearance at the Whiskey Cafe Cruise in Lyndhurst, New Jersey on Saturday June 21. I have a ton more pics after the jump. Thanks to Chris Germain for the great photos!

By Jen Dunnaway Editor This badass Buick Somerset, built by Tommy Riggins, has a racing past that reaches back into the 80's. It was built for the IMSA's Kelly American Challenge in 1985, and also ran in 24 Hours of LeMans and 12 Hours of Sebring in 1987. Its Chevy 358 makes 750 horsepower, and owner Shaun now races it in SCCA events at Laguna Seca. On his ride page, Shaun's got some hilarious video of it leaving the rest of the vintage racers in the dust. Listen to that engine!
