By Jen Dunnaway Editor This little all-aluminum hot rod was easily the most striking vehicle in the Ford booth. The handbuilt body, done by Webb Automotive Art, represents a "modern interpretation" of famed racecar builder Harry Miller's 1917 Golden Submarine. But it's running a Ford Racing Zetec ZX3-spec alcohol crate engine, the same ones they use in the Ford Focus Midget series. See more pics after the jump!

By John Coyle Editor The signs on both sides of this gigantic tire warn not to touch it. I wonder why that is exactly? It couldn't be because a couple of good shoves could send it barreling through a hall packed to the gills with horrendously expensive show cars, right? The Titan people probably just don't want anybody getting their hands dirty. That must be it.

By Ben Schaffer Bulletproof Automotive The picture below I think highlights the Midnight Purple paint fairly well. Unfortunately to really understand the paint you need to see it in different photos in different light since it changes from purple to blue to nearly black. For the purple car we switched the exhaust tips on the order last minute to the B-Tail (full blue/purple gradation) to perfectly match the paint hue. For the white car we went with the A-Tail finish which I think suits the...

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief Allpar is reporting that the GM/Chrysler merger is on hold, since the Bush administration ruled out federal funding for it yesterday. This effectively pushes a possible merger out til after the election, or until the new administration and Congress take office in January. Maybe now Cerberus will reconsider a partnership with Renault-Nissan. More at Allpar.

By Ben Schaffer Bulletproof Automotive Below is the billboard for Mobil 1 being put up in Las Vegas. For the record, the billboard was done about 3 weeks ago and it is computer generated (not the real car). The guys at Theory Communication did a great job working under pressure to design the billboard without a real car existing yet. Interestingly enough, the car at the time of the billboard creation was just starting preparation to be loaded on a boat coming from Hawaii to Los Angeles for...

By Ben Schaffer Bulletproof Automotive Now that this GT-R is completed, I thought I’d start to share a little more of the background. The GT-R as shown below was still relatively stock in that photo. When it debuts at SEMA next week it will look entirely different. As such, I don't mind sharing a couple of pictures here because it’ll never be seen looking like this again. Continue reading... Goal: Although I have two different GT-Rs I’ve been preparing for SEMA, each one has a very...

By David Wallens Grassroots Motorsports I just spent some time with the new Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, and it only comes with one transmission choice: Mitsubishi's Twin Clutch-Sportronic Shift Transmission, a twin-clutch automatic gearbox. It's similar to VW's DSG tranny. I grew up with traditional stick shifts, as I have never owned a vehicle fitted with an autobox. These new twin-clutch autos could sway me. In the auto mode, they're just fine for around-town driving. Engage the manual...

By Jen Dunnaway Editor I love it when CarDomain members document paint on their ride pages, and Marty's '73 Gremlin getting done in Dodge Viper Snakeskin Green is one of my faves. But it's not as though the Grem is all show, no go—Marty has spent the last winter swapping out the car's factory 232 straight-six for an AMC 343 V8 mated to a Mustang 5-speed. Nice work all around! Check out his page.

By Jen Dunnaway Editor As you can expect, GM's bringing a pretty tricked-out 2010 Camaro to SEMA this year. The General hasn't released much in the way of details on what they've been calling the Camaro "Black," but you can bet that it'll be loaded up with the aftermarket goodies that will be available for the car as soon as it makes its debut. The red halo headlights are the best touch, and emphasize the family resemblance between this burly Camaro and the mythical Chevy Tantrum. Too bad...

By Ben Schaffer Bulletproof Automotive Yesterday I started previewing one of our main SEMA GT-R projects. Today we’ll continue with a few of the design elements. This image showcases two different design points. One is symmetry (perhaps parallel might be the better word), which I also worked hard to achieve on my S2000 last year for SEMA. The S2000 utilized twin canard shaped designs front and rear which were parallel. On the rear of the S2000 last year I matched up Top Secret Kevlar...

By John Coyle Editor This wicked hot Murcielago was raced at Mid-Ohio in the GT2 class during 2004 American Le Mans series. Per the rules, it was converted to RWD, and while there are no horsepower numbers available, you can bet it's pretty quick. Since I'm of the opinion that Lamborghini should actually campaign some factory cars—arch-rival Ferrari can still hold that glaring omission over Santa Agata's head—just seeing pictures of this baby sent shivers down my spine. Seriously, there are...

By Ben Schaffer Bulletproof Automotive I thought I’d continue on with the sneak peek and highlight some of the design concepts from one of the two signature GT-R's I’m preparing for SEMA (you can read my first sneak peek here). The photo below illustrates a couple of points I wanted to make. First off is a subtle attempt at blurring the line between FRP parts and carbon parts. For example: the Amuse high mount dry carbon wing comes with a FRP base and with a dry carbon center flap. To...

By John Coyle Editor Ok, so I don't know for sure whether Galpin Motorsports' Scythe has actually eaten anyone yet, but with a 1000 horsepower, twin-supercharged V8 under the hood, it's only a matter of time. Apparently, this beast is based on a Mustang, but at this point, it has about as much in common with one of Ford's ponies as the Space Shuttle. From this pic, I can't tell if I actually like the crazy sheet metal, but if this thing asks me, you can bet I'll answer that I love it. More...

By John Coyle Editor There's no mention of exactly how much weight Zele's carbon-fiber kit shaves of the Nissan's new halo car, but given that Godzilla tips the scales at a burly 3800 pounds, just knowing it's lighter than stock is probably information enough. Now, I wouldn't buy a vehicle with such draconian warranty restrictions, but the carbon accents look pretty trick, and I have to admit the GT-R looks stunning in orange. Too bad it's not available from the factory in this color. For...

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief Detroit News is reporting that GM may do to Chrysler what Chrysler did to AMC in the 80s. That is, buy them and eliminate them, with the exception of the Jeep brand: "The others (automakers) will be delighted to have Chrysler just die and take 1.5 million units out of the industry, which is about what the excess is," said Gerald Meyers, former chairman of AMC and now a professor at the University of Michigan. ... At Chrysler's Auburn Hills headquarters,...

By Katherine Helmetag AKA atomicalex The big news in Detroit this weekend was the talks between GM and Cerberus, the owners of Chrysler LLC. The nature of the talks was, of course, unspecified, but pundits (myself included) are going nuts over the idea of a GM-Chrysler merger. The effects of such a merger would be interesting—GM would gain Jeep, which would ease the psychological pain of selling off Hummer. Jeep is one of the best-known brands by any measure, and I've long wondered when GM...

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief On Wednesday while I was hanging around with the NorthWest Auto Salon guys and waiting for John to come back from his ride in the Ford GT, one of the Group 2 Motorsports guys dropped by with this gorgeous Alfa GTV. Man, I love these cars. More pics after the jump.

By Rob Einaudi Editor-in-Chief That's not a typo in the headline--GTbyCITROËN is all smashed together and capitalized, just to be extra super duper awesome. This joint venture between Citroën and the makers of Gran Turismo is blowing everyone's minds in Paris. The car was created for the 5th game in the Playstation series, and apparently visitors to the Paris Motor Show can drive the car in a simulator at the Citroën stand. No word on whether or not this space age vehicle will ever fully...

By Jen Dunnaway Editor Tonight I'm in Braselton, Georgia, just minutes away from Road Atlanta. I'm super-stoked about tomorrow, when I'll be visiting this legendary racetrack for the first of four straight days of American Le Mans Series action! Tomorrow will start with practice, building up to Saturday's Petit Le Mans, a ten-hour endurance race and a crucial event on the ALMS circuit. In the meantime, here's a more official image of the B-K Motorsports team's all-new all Lola...

By Evan NWSilverado I'm not sure what it is, but I'm always drawn back to the Delorean. And the only thing more cool than a conventional-engined DeLorean would be one with all-electric power, right? Back in June, Jen wrote about a man who created his own DeLorean EV, and now it looks like he's trying to sell it on eBay. Who knows where the reserve is set, but with the Buy It Now at $100,000, it's going to have to end up in the collection of someone who's seriously dedicated. Check out the...

By Jen Dunnaway Editor Unless you're filthy rich or you don't care about your driving record, you're going to try to talk your way out of a traffic ticket when you get pulled over. Jalopnik posted an article on the subject, and while it's pretty hilarious, I wonder how many of these tips would help you make any headway with a real-life cop. The standard pull-over advice involves keeping your hands in view on the steering wheel, removing suspicious sunglasses, minding your p's and q's, and...

By Mike Musto AKA Mr. Angry Yesterday I spoke to Greg Cecil, who is one of the men in charge on the Volt project. I am the co-host of the "RPM" radio show on Maxim Magazine channel 108 on Sirius Satellite every Thursday from 2-3pm Eastern, and he was our guest. The Volt is a very interesting car and Greg was very quick to point out that it is NOT a hybrid but an "extended range" vehicle. You can charge it with a 220 or 110 standard outlet. A full charge with a 210 outlet can be done in...

By Craig McAlpine iMotor It's only been five years since the current Golf arrived. But it's already being replaced. The new MkVI is cheaper to build, so VW has hurried it into production. That doesn't mean it isn't good, though. This new car raises the bar in the small family class. It's incredibly refined, superbly built and is great to drive--in short it's top quality. But the new Golf isn't quite perfect. Check out the article with video to find out why.
