Yesterday on my way back from a smog check in the old Volvo I dropped by British Sportscars and Classics on Aurora. I’d passed by the fenced-in yard filled with tarp-covered British classics for years, but had never stopped to take a closer look. Owner Robin Purington has been there for over twenty years, and his shop does [...]

Hey guys. Well… it’s back. BULLRUN season II is has finally come into being, but this time it will be on Speed TV as opposed to Spike TV, so don’t get them confused. A highlight, at least for me anyway, is that the people over at BULLRUN were smart enough to have include yet another [...]

On Tuesday GM shut down its factories in Janesville, Wisconsin and Moraine, Ohio, and last Friday Chrysler shut down its factory in Newark, Delaware. All of these plants produced full-size SUVs. Sales of SUVs dropped 40 percent this year and aren’t expected to come back up any time soon. More plant closings will follow as [...]

Still looking for the perfect Christmas gift for that special someone? Then how about this blown 454 Porsche 928 on eBay? It’s “well built” but it’s never been to the drag strip because the owner is “too scared to test it.” I’m sure it will give the Porsche Purist nightmares, but I think it’s kind [...]

Bulletproof Automotive
So we’ve all by now probably seen some crazy and funny Boso vehicles. I happen to like this guy’s ride because it's just so stupid it's hilarious. I hope this guy starts a trend. We need more humor in our custom cars. Forget hydros, this car is fixed in this position forever. Picture him rolling! Actually, better yet, have a look at the video at the after the jump!
This makes the 8 year old boy in me very happy! If only I had a Hot Wheels of this...

Automotive Traveler
Monday on Automotive Traveler we reported that it seems like the people of Michigan have had enough of Alabama Senator Richard Shelby and his attempts to derail the Federal loan guarantees for the Detroit Three. Seems that one retired GM worker and some friends have launched Boycott Alabama Now which points out some of the hypocrisies in Senator Shelby’s policies when it comes out to dispensing Federal cash, like the $160 million he’s appropriated for...

Grassroots Motorsports
Sadly, it's not a full-size one. It's a Carrera slot car replica of the machine once driven by Patrick Long, the only American on Porsche's factory driver roster. Patrick just wrote a story that will run in our next issue of Grassroots Motorsports, so when I saw this last night at our local slot car emporium I couldn't say no.

SEMA took a small step forward in the green category this year. Some of the top "green" vehicles were the Hi-Pa Drive F-150 (via Truck Trend), the E-85 X Prize Fox Body Mustang, the John Deere Smart, the Electric Blazer and of course the Vertical Doors Prius. Which is your favorite?

Hot rods just keep getting bigger at SEMA every year, especially with the whole traditional scene gaining traction. And the best thing about rods is that they're infinitely customizable--on these cars, most stuff is purpose-built, and no two are alike, or even similar. For our Best of SEMA voting in this category, we've got a whole pileup of wild hot rods--and I have to warn you, Fords are overrepresented, just as they are in the hot rod scene as a whole. At this...

Part of the fun of going to SEMA is not knowing exactly what you're going to see. And since we've been hearing rumors about the sport compact scene being "dead," nobody on the CarDomain editorial team was sure what kinds of rides we'd find to flesh out this category. But fortunately, the rumors of death were greatly exaggerated, and there were plenty of awesome sport compacts to choose from. So which do you think was the hottest one at the show? The Vivid Racing EVO...

SEMA is all about over-the-top customizing, which is part of the reason why showroom-perfect stock restorations provide such a nice contrast at the show. Don't be fooled, though—these blast-from-the-past beauties are rarely 100% factory, and it's always interesting to see what the builder was able to tweak while retaining the original looks. For our Best Of SEMA voting in the Restorations category, we've nominated the '61 Ford Starliner, this old-school JDM Skyline,...

There are always plenty of sweet luxury rides at SEMA, and this year was no exception. I'd never seen the Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe before, and while it's huge—damn, is that puppy gigantic!—I thought it was sexy as hell. I also liked ASI's Bentley Continental GT Speed, the Carlsson Tuned CK50RS, the Silver Shadow with a Hemi swap, and the stretched 300C in the Mopar booth. Which one is your favorite?

It's not looking good for the Big Three right now. The top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee is opposed to a $25 billion loan package and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of support elsewhere. Meanwhile, it appears that the big three are just months away from running out of cash. UAW President Ron Gettelfinger ranked the relative financial health of Big Three as follows: Ford, Chrysler, then GM. Personally, I think there is too much...

Trucks are HUGE at SEMA. The Baldwin Motorsports F-150 looked tough in photos and even tougher in person. I loved the paint on the Matrix System Silverado. Planet Color had the coolest SSR At SEMA. Orange Crush was my favorite diesel-powered ride at the show. And Mr. Angry loved the Matte Black Tundra in the Toyota booth. Vote for your favorite!

After the 2008 Bullrun was complete and the reality show had been shot, rally co-founder David Green raced in the Seat Cupra Championship over in the UK. But during a race at Brands Hatch, he had a pretty nasty wreck, where he chipped his teeth and got knocked unconscious. Yikes. This clip does a great job of showing just how violent it was—check out how much his body moves during the multiple impacts. Glad to hear you're OK David! Hopefully I'll see you on the rally...

There are always a ton of cool off-road vehicles at SEMA, and this year was no exception. We followed the ICON builds closely leading up to SEMA, and I got a chance to talk to Jonathan Ward about his awesome ICON FJ43 at the show. The Subaru Mountain Rescue vehicle pretty much dominated the Subaru booth. Mr. Angry really loved the Bushwacker Jeep with the paintball guns. Skyjacker always has cool rides in their booth, and their pre-production 2009 F-150 did...

The SEMA show really isn't about exotics. Most of the supercars on display are pretty much stock, so your favorite is probably going to be decided either by paint scheme, whether you like the wheels, or brand preference. At least that's how I made my decision. Anyway, here are the choices: a Lamborghini Reventon, the Bulletproof Automotive GTR, a Spyker C8 Laviolette, the electric Green Gallardo from the Giovanna Wheels Booth, and a battleship gray Ferrari 430...

Amidst all the bling and glitter, one thing that can get overlooked at SEMA is the motorsports element. But a huge part of SEMA is everything that's shiny and new in the world of professional motorsports, since so much of the aftermarket is first developed in racing—and now, drifting. And wow, were there ever some insane and over-the-top race cars at this year's show! For your consideration in the Motorsports category of our Best of SEMA voting, we've got the General...

Ok, so technically most of these are "pony cars," but whatever. If a car has 1,750 horsepower, are you really gonna call it a pony car? Narrowing it down to just five was tricky. I picked one representative from each of the OEM's booths (and this was quite difficult for the Challenger), then added two other faves (also difficult). So we ended up with the Challenger Targa, the Dale Jr. Camaro, the Cobra Jet Mustang, the Pure Vision 515 GTB Charger and the...

I didn't see anything roll off this Cummins diesel-powered Ford COE at SEMA, but if it did, I'm sure it paled in comparison to the hauler itself! We've actually had this truck in the blog before, and it's been spotted in So Cal several times. More pics after the jump.
