Sunday was a great day for me. I got to attend the American Breed 2008 show. Run by the 60s American Car Club, the show caters to all American two- and four-door cars and rods. Although attendance was down because of some really bad weather on the previous day, it still turned out to be a top event. The show had a wide range of cars from 50s Caddies to classic American muscle like Chargers, Mustangs and Camaros.
However the one car that left me really puzzled...

Entry # 1237 shows how it's done.
I have been in love with horses ever since i was a young boy and told myself that ever since i will start driving my first car will be one with a horse symbol. Keeping in mind the Ferrari was out of the question, I fell in love with the body style of 99-04 Mustangs. My first car was and is a Satin Silver Ford Mustang GT that I will never get rid of! Consindering I am 20 yrs old, I plan onto adding performance and suspension...

I'm really loving entry # 1284, a rat rod CRX.
Bought this car from a guy that was taking it to a scrap yard. I payed $800 for it and started restoring it. After three years its almost done. I did a 95 del sol motor swap then turboed it with a homemade turbo kit I put together. Its making just over 200HP and is a blast to drive on the street.
There are still more chances to win, so if you haven't already thrown your hat into the ring, make sure to enter the...

When the average citizen thinks about art, they probably go with something traditional--Monet, Ansel Adams or even dogs playing poker. This past weekend I visited two museums that are more our speed: the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, and the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, located just outside Birmingham, Alabama.
Both places are out of this world. The Lane museum's collection can best be described as cars you have probably never...

I've noticed quite a few Lambo pics uploaded to the Amoco Ultimate Your Car Is Worth It Photo Contest, but somehow I'm doubting that most were uploaded by their actual owners. This one (entry # 1487) is definitely legit—though it's a kit. Still, I think it's pretty cool. But then I had a Countach poster in my room in the 80s, too.
When I was growing up in the 80's The Lamborghini Countach was a poster that could be found on the walls of most teenage boys...

I recently attended John’s Rod And Custom Picnic at Pakenham, Australia's largest rockabilly and hot rod festival, which spans three days each November. The thing that I really like about the rod and custom shows is the variety in the cars on display. One of the more unique vehicles was this VW. I have heard of Volks Rods before but this machine takes it somewhere completely different, and whether or not it’s a good kind of different is a matter of personal taste....

Gorgeous cars are one thing—but I'm a sucker for a good story. And fortunately, I didn't have compromise on either of those elements when it came time to write up this week's Amoco Ultimate Favorite. I mean, this Starliner Coupe is an absolute knockout, and the story? Well, you can read that for yourself: "In 2005 the US Post Office issued a series of stamps of American Sports
Cars of the 1950s. In the series was a 1953 Studebaker Starliner
Coupe—the same car that my...

Well, this Nomad isn't going to be winning awards at car shows any time soon, and this shot sure isn't going to win any photography awards, but what can I say—nothing melts my heart like a basketcase rescue. So I figured that the owner of this rest-in-pieces Nomad, entry # 1467 in our Amoco Ultimate Your Car Is Worth It contest, deserved a special shout-out. Here's what he says about it:
My two lifelong dreams have been to own a 1957 Nomad and to do a complete...

Congrats to Chris, our first Amoco Ultimate American LeMans Series winner! Chris, who submitted entry #1022 and owns a sweet 350Z, will attend the American LeMans Series race of his choice!
I am 23 years old and Ive had this car for about a year and a half. It is a 2003 Pikes Peak White 350z. I have invested every penny that i can afford while paying for rent and student loans. It turns heads of all types from young to old. Which is why i do it. Not to win...

If you are, don't worry, I'm just working through the last photos on my camera today (though I'm sure John and Jen will have a few more to write about when they roll into the office tomorrow). On Wednesday, we'll start our Best of SEMA voting, where you get to pick your favorites rides at SEMA in ten categories (we only have nine categories right now since hi risers were MIA this year, but I'm sure we can come up with one more). Anyway, here's the Top Tuner...

So, like 15 minutes ago, Kia was more punchline than car company. And while there are probably plenty of people who still think that's true, I'm not among them. Parent company Hyundai has proven it can build solid, reliable cars for years now—my little sister and Mom both love their Hyundais—which leads me to believe that Kia's quality isn't far behind. Also, it's pretty clear Hyundai is positioning Kia to be the Scion of the family, because they've mandated that...

Scion always puts up an impressive booth—Kathy's already blogged the Cartel Customs xD and the P-40 tC, and I found that their widebody tC's were even hotter in person than in their design concepts. The "Stay Tuned" theme was cute, and it's clear they're putting major emphasis on aftermarket modding, which is what we like to see. Take a look around the Scion booth after the jump.

There were only six cars in the Hyundai booth, but there was a lot of excitement. The 300HP Genesis Coupe is almost ready to drop, and the sedan version has been getting good reviews, so the Hyundai folks were in great spirits. Rhys Millen was on hand to reveal his tuned version of the Coupe—think wide body, carbon fiber everything, cage, more ponies—and there were also versions from Street Concepts and HKS. Rides and DUB Magazine also delivered editions of the...

With their giant dancing LED screen, Honda totally takes the cake for booth pyrotechnics this year. They put major emphasis on their motorsports involvement, which was interesting. Danica Patrick's Indy car was front and center, and vehicles like their Ridgeline Racing pickup and KONI Challenge Si's, like the No. 78 car pictured, were all over the booth. This Galpin edition Accord was also totally hot, making 400 hp with the help of a GodSpeed turbo. Who says Accords...

Since I never miss an opportunity to demonstrate my ignorance, I'm just going to admit that I had no idea Suzuki's Equator won Petersen's 4 Wheel and Off Road's 4x4 of the year. While I haven't driven one, I can say the example in the Suzuki booth looks ready to go through a brick wall. Now, nobody builds better bikes than Suzuki—sorry, Honda—and I've long thought that if the company started focusing more on its four-wheeled products, they'd be force to be reckoned...

The General's stock might be in the crapper, but the company still had a big presence at SEMA. As you can imagine, there were a whole bunch of Camaros, along with a sweet G8, a really slick looking Malibu, and even a few Hummers. But the car I was most excited about was the Solstice Coupe. Even though I generally don't like the way convertibles look, I think the topless Solstice is sweet, and adding a roof only improves the lines. Check out a bunch more photos from...

The beautiful thing about the automobile is that there are just so damn many of them and each has their own distinct personality. They come in wonderful shapes and sizes and make all sorts of wonderful (and sometimes not so wonderful) sounds. Some, however, really stand out in the crowd. Take this 1951 Chevy convertible—Amoco Ultimate entry #1357. Nothing too crazy at first glance until you begin to look closely. Check out those massive white walls, chrome wheels...

I seem to remember Toyota's booth being quite a bit more heavy on the trucks last year, but times have changed a lot since then. This time around, the few blimpy Tundras are shoved to the back, and their functionality is emphasized above all else—like this toolbox-laden Ducati-themed race-bike hauler. For the most part, it's the lifestyle vehicles that are front and center, like the snowboard-toting Venza ASV and a couple of sporty Tacomas, including a baja-inspired...

Right now, the whole editorial team, our guest bloggers and our number one photographer are all in Vegas for SEMA, running around the halls trying to find the coolest stuff to blog about. Cutting the roof off a car to make it a convertible is always a bit sketchy, but the owner seems to have done it the right way, if you can say there even is a right way to do this kind of radical surgery. In any case, you have to hand it to him: the flamed, flat-black '84 Gran Fury looks hot. Here's what he says about it:
1984 Plymouth Gran Fury Police Special. The only four door convertible I bought this car in Cuba while stationed at the US Navy's Guantamo Bay...

I've often been asked if I get bored going to so many car shows, to be perfectly honest I don't. It just seems that no matter how many you go to, you're guaranteed to see something that you haven't seen before. The other week I attended the annual show run by the Melbourne-based Chrysler Restorers Club of Australia. Much to my surprise someone had brought along a sensational looking Chrysler 300, which had only just arrived in the country and is probably the only...
